Possible Causes

Stuck or burnt compressor relay on PCB, Cold solder joint on relay pins, Overheated relay contacts from high current, Damaged PCB tracks to compressor output

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the freezer before opening the control housing. The compressor circuit carries mains voltage.

  • 1. Confirm symptom: Note if the compressor fails to start even when the freezer is warm and calling for cooling (display set to low temperature).
  • 2. Access main PCB: Remove the control cover and locate the compressor relay (usually a rectangular component near the compressor output terminals).
  • 3. Visual inspection: Check for discoloration, cracking, or burn marks on the relay and surrounding PCB. Inspect solder joints for cracks.
  • 4. Gently tap test (temporary): With power disconnected, lightly tap the relay body. Restore power and see if the compressor starts; if so, the relay is likely sticking and must be replaced.
  • 5. Replace relay or board: On most Siemens models, the relay is not intended to be user-replaced separately; instead, replace the entire main control board with a Siemens-compatible unit.
  • 6. Reassemble and test: Refit covers, restore power, and monitor compressor operation and E23 status.

Note: If a new board fails again quickly, have a technician check the compressor for excessive current draw that may be damaging the relay.
