Possible Causes
Ice or debris blocking drain hole under evaporator, Drain tube kinked or frozen, Heater not warming drain area sufficiently, Cabinet insulation moisture causing refreezing
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the freezer before defrosting or accessing the evaporator area.
- 1. Remove drawers and rear panel: Access the evaporator compartment and locate the drain hole at the bottom.
- 2. Defrost ice: Use warm water and a turkey baster or squeeze bottle to melt ice in the drain area. Do not use sharp tools.
- 3. Clear drain tube: Insert a flexible plastic tube or pipe cleaner into the drain to clear any blockage. Flush with warm water until it flows freely into the drain pan near the compressor.
- 4. Check drain heater (if fitted): Some Siemens models have a small heater near the drain. Ensure it is correctly positioned against the drain channel.
- 5. Reassemble and monitor: Refit panels and drawers, restore power, and check over the next days that ice does not reform on the bottom.
Note: If the drain repeatedly freezes, a technician may need to check defrost heater operation and insulation around the drain.
