Possible Causes
Failed ambient NTC sensor, Sensor dislodged from mounting location, Damaged sensor wiring near cabinet frame, Faulty sensor input on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer before removing any trim or control panels.
- 1. Locate ambient sensor: On many SMEG freezers, the ambient sensor is positioned near the front grille, control panel, or behind a small vent on the cabinet frame.
- 2. Inspect sensor and wiring: Check that the sensor is intact and not physically damaged. Look for pinched or cut wires where they pass through metal or plastic.
- 3. Test resistance: Disconnect the sensor and measure resistance at room temperature (around 20–25°C). Compare to the expected NTC value from the service manual. OL or 0 Ω indicates a failed sensor.
- 4. Replace sensor if faulty: Install the correct SMEG ambient NTC sensor, routing the cable along the original path and securing it with clips or tape.
- 5. Check connector at PCB: Ensure the ambient sensor plug is firmly seated on the main board and that pins are not bent.
- 6. Restore power and test: After reassembly, power on the freezer and confirm that E7 is cleared and that the unit responds correctly to ambient conditions.
