Possible Causes
Loose or damaged display ribbon cable, Faulty display PCB, Oxidized connectors between UI and main board, Main PCB communication failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect mains power before removing the control panel or display assembly.
- 1. Access control panel: Depending on the model, remove the top/front trim or inner door panel to reach the display and user interface board.
- 2. Inspect ribbon cable: Check the flat cable or harness connecting the display to the main PCB for kinks, cuts, or burn marks. Ensure both ends are fully seated.
- 3. Clean connectors: Gently unplug and replug the connectors several times to wipe oxidation from the contacts. Do not use excessive force.
- 4. Check for moisture: Look for signs of condensation or liquid ingress around the display. Dry the area thoroughly if moisture is present.
- 5. Replace display PCB if needed: If connections are sound but E9 persists, replace the display/user interface board with the correct SMEG part.
- 6. Evaluate main PCB: If a new display does not resolve the issue, the main control board may have a communication fault and should be replaced by a technician.
- 7. Reassemble and test: Restore power and verify that the display operates normally and E9 is cleared.
