Possible Causes
Faulty cabinet NTC sensor reading too warm, Stuck compressor relay on main PCB, Incorrect control calibration, Shorted sensor wiring
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Avoid touching bare metal surfaces for extended periods in very low temperatures.
- 1. Verify set point: Ensure the temperature is not set lower than necessary. Adjust to -18°C and wait 24 hours.
- 2. Compare with thermometer: Place an accurate freezer thermometer inside and compare actual temperature to the display. A large difference indicates a sensor or control issue.
- 3. Inspect sensor wiring: Access the cabinet NTC sensor and check for damaged insulation or shorts to the cabinet.
- 4. Replace NTC sensor: If readings are inconsistent or out of spec, install a new SMEG cabinet temperature sensor.
- 5. Control board check: If the compressor runs almost continuously even when the interior is well below set point, the compressor relay on the main PCB may be stuck closed and the board should be replaced.
