Possible Causes
Faulty magnetic door switch, Misaligned door magnet, Broken or loose door switch wiring
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety warning: Unplug the freezer before removing any switch or trim pieces. Avoid prying plastic aggressively to prevent cracking.
Steps to address E7:
- Inspect the door area: Check that the door closes fully and that the gasket is not obstructed. A door that does not close can cause the control to think the door is open.
- Locate the door switch: On many Summit freezers, the door switch is a small plunger or magnetic sensor near the top or side of the cabinet opening.
- Test the switch: With power disconnected, remove the switch from the liner (usually by gently prying or removing a screw). Disconnect the wires and test continuity with a multimeter while pressing the plunger or placing a magnet near the sensor. The reading should change between open and closed.
- Check wiring: Inspect the switch wires for breaks or loose connections. Repair any damaged sections and ensure connectors are tight.
- Replace faulty switch: Install a Summit-compatible door switch or magnetic sensor if the original does not change state properly. Reconnect wires and secure the switch in place.
- Verify door magnet (if used): If the system uses a magnet in the door, ensure it is present and aligned with the sensor. Replace or reattach if missing or loose.
- Restore power and test: Plug the freezer back in and open/close the door to confirm that interior lights and alarms behave normally and that E7 does not reappear.
