Possible Causes
Frozen or clogged defrost drain, Drain heater (if equipped) not working, Food packaging blocking drain trough
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety warning: Unplug the freezer before defrosting or working near the evaporator.
Steps to remove ice and restore drainage:
- Remove contents: Take out food from the bottom area and place in a cooler.
- Defrost ice: Unplug the freezer and allow ice on the bottom to melt. Use towels to absorb water. A hair dryer on low can speed melting; keep it moving and away from plastic.
- Access drain hole: Remove the interior rear panel to expose the evaporator and drain trough. Locate the drain opening at the lowest point.
- Clear the drain: Use warm water and a turkey baster to flush the drain. Insert a flexible plastic brush or pipe cleaner to dislodge debris.
- Check drain tube: From the rear or bottom, ensure the drain tube is not kinked or blocked and that it leads to the drain pan.
- Reassemble and test: Reinstall panels, restore power, and monitor for several days to confirm no further water accumulation.
