Possible Causes

Faulty thermostat or temperature control, Defective main control board, Failed compressor start relay or overload, Open circuit in compressor wiring

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the freezer before removing covers or touching electrical parts.

  • Confirm power: Check that the outlet has power and the plug is fully inserted. Test with another appliance.
  • Check control setting: Ensure the thermostat is not set to '0' or 'OFF'. On electronic models, verify the unit is not in standby.
  • Listen for compressor: After plugging in, listen at the back. If there is no hum or click, suspect control or start components.
  • Bypass thermostat (for testing only): On mechanical models, temporarily bridge the thermostat contacts (with power disconnected while wiring). If the compressor starts when re-powered, replace the thermostat.
  • Inspect compressor start relay and overload: Remove the cover on the compressor terminals and check the relay and overload for burns or loose connections. Replace if damaged.
  • Control board: If start components are good and the compressor windings test OK, the main PCB may not be sending power to the compressor and will need replacement.

Test: After replacing the faulty part, restore power and allow several hours for the freezer to reach operating temperature.
