Possible Causes
Faulty magnetic reed switch or mechanical door switch, Misaligned door magnet, Broken switch wiring in cabinet, Main PCB input failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before removing switch covers or panels.
Steps:
- 1. Identify door switch type: Toshiba freezers may use a mechanical plunger switch in the door frame or a magnetic reed sensor hidden in the liner with a magnet in the door.
- 2. Test operation: With power on (for a quick test), press the plunger or place a magnet near the sensor area. The interior light should turn off and any door alarm should stop. If not, suspect the switch.
- 3. Remove and inspect switch: Unplug the freezer. Pry out the mechanical switch or access the sensor area. Check for broken wires or moisture damage.
- 4. Electrical test: Measure continuity across the switch terminals while actuating it. It should change from open to closed. Replace if it does not switch reliably.
- 5. Check door magnet alignment: For magnetic systems, ensure the magnet in the door gasket area is present and aligned with the sensor location.
- 6. Replace faulty parts: Install a new Toshiba-compatible door switch or sensor. If the switch tests good but E9 persists, the main PCB input circuit may be defective.
