Possible Causes

Door left open or not sealing, Recent large warm food load, Failed compressor or start device, Refrigerant leak in sealed system

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: No internal electrical work is required for basic checks, but unplug the unit before removing panels.

Steps:

  • 1. Check door seal: Ensure the door is fully closing and the gasket is not deformed or blocked by food packages. Clean the gasket with warm soapy water and dry.
  • 2. Allow recovery time: If you recently loaded a large quantity of unfrozen food or had a power outage, allow 12–24 hours for temperature to stabilize. Keep the door closed as much as possible.
  • 3. Verify compressor operation: Listen for the compressor running and feel for slight vibration. The condenser area should become warm after 10–20 minutes of operation.
  • 4. Check for frost pattern: If accessible, remove the inner rear panel and inspect the evaporator. A normal system will show even frost across most of the coil. Only partial frost or no frost suggests a sealed system issue.
  • 5. Clear alarm: Many Toshiba freezers allow you to silence the alarm by pressing the alarm or set button. If H1 persists and temperature does not drop, further diagnosis of compressor, start device, or sealed system is required.

When to call a technician: If the compressor is hot and not cooling, or the evaporator shows only partial frost, contact a licensed refrigeration technician for sealed system diagnosis.
