L1
Toshiba
Low Temperature / Low Ambient Alarm or Sensor Miscalibration
Freezer displays L1 or LO and may not maintain low temperature; sometimes indicates low ambient or sensor misread.

Possible Causes
Freezer installed in very cold room (garage, balcony), Faulty ambient sensor, Control board misinterpreting sensor data, Incorrect temperature setting
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: No high-voltage work is typically needed; unplug before accessing sensors.
Steps:
- 1. Check installation location: Confirm the freezer is installed within Toshiba's specified ambient range (often 10–43°C). Very cold rooms can cause control errors.
- 2. Verify settings: Ensure the temperature is not set excessively low. Adjust to a moderate setting and monitor.
- 3. Inspect ambient sensor: Access the control panel area and check the ambient thermistor for secure mounting and intact wiring (see E4 procedure).
- 4. Reset control: Unplug the freezer for 5–10 minutes, then restore power to clear any temporary logic fault.
- 5. Replace sensor or PCB: If L1 persists in a normal ambient environment and the sensor tests faulty, replace the ambient thermistor. If the sensor is good, the main PCB may require replacement.
