Possible Causes

Open or shorted cabinet temperature sensor, Damaged sensor wiring harness, Corroded or loose sensor connector at control board, Failed electronic control board (PCB)

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the freezer before removing any panels or handling wiring. Use a non-contact voltage tester if available.

Step-by-step checks:

  • Power cycle: Unplug the freezer for 5 minutes, then plug it back in. If E1 returns after a few minutes of operation, continue.
  • Locate the cabinet sensor: On most Vissani uprights, the temperature sensor is behind a small plastic cover on the rear interior wall or near the evaporator cover. Remove shelves and the inner panel if needed.
  • Inspect the sensor and wiring: Look for broken insulation, pinched wires, or corrosion at the connector. Reseat the connector firmly.
  • Test the sensor (if you have a multimeter): Disconnect the sensor from the harness. Measure resistance at room temperature (typically 5–20 kΩ depending on model). If it reads 0 Ω (short) or OL (open), the sensor is bad.
  • Check continuity to the board: If the sensor tests OK, check the harness from the sensor to the main control board for continuity and visible damage.
  • Replace parts as needed: If the sensor is faulty, replace the cabinet temperature sensor (NTC). If wiring and sensor are good but E1 persists, the main control board is likely defective and should be replaced.

When to call a technician: If you are not comfortable removing interior panels or testing resistance, or if the control board needs replacement, contact a qualified appliance technician.
