Possible Causes
Failed condenser fan motor, Obstructed fan blades by debris or ice, Loose or damaged fan wiring harness, Faulty control board fan output
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the freezer. The condenser area may be hot; allow it to cool before working.
Steps:
- Access condenser fan: Remove the rear lower access panel to expose the condenser coil and fan assembly.
- Check for obstructions: Spin the fan blade by hand. It should move freely. Remove dust, plastic, or insulation blocking the blade.
- Inspect wiring: Ensure the fan motor connector is fully seated and wires are not cut or pinched.
- Test fan motor: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the fan and measure resistance across the motor leads. An open circuit indicates a bad motor.
- Direct test (advanced): If comfortable and qualified, you can power the fan motor briefly with a matching external power source to confirm operation. Otherwise, skip this step.
- Replace fan motor: If the motor is seized or open, install a new condenser fan motor assembly and reuse or replace the fan blade as needed.
- Control board check: If the fan tests good but never receives power when the compressor runs, the main control board may have a failed fan driver.
