Possible Causes
Stuck-closed temperature sensor reading, Control board not cycling compressor off, Thermostat calibration error, Sensor misplaced or not sensing cabinet air correctly
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Overcooling is generally not a safety hazard but can waste energy and damage food quality.
Steps:
- Check setpoint: Verify that the temperature setting is not at the coldest position. Adjust to a warmer setting and monitor for several hours.
- Inspect sensor placement: Ensure the cabinet temperature sensor is properly mounted in its holder and not touching the evaporator or walls directly, which can cause false low readings.
- Power reset: Unplug the freezer for 5–10 minutes, then restore power to clear any control glitches.
- Monitor operation: If the compressor runs nearly constantly even at a warmer setting, the control board or sensor may be faulty.
- Replace components: Test and replace the cabinet temperature sensor first. If overcooling persists, replace the main control board.
