How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the freezer. Water from melting ice can create slip hazards; use towels.

Steps:

Manual defrost: Leave the door open and allow all ice to melt. Do not use sharp tools to chip ice.
Access evaporator: Remove the rear interior panel to expose the evaporator coil and defrost components.
Test defrost heater: Disconnect the heater leads and measure resistance. Replace the defrost heater assembly if open.
Check defrost thermostat: Test continuity when the thermostat is cold. Replace the defrost thermostat if it does not close when cold.
Inspect wiring: Repair any burned or broken wires in the defrost circuit.
Control board: If heater and thermostat are good, the main control board may not be initiating defrost and should be replaced.

Freezer interior warm but compressor and fans are running continuously; heavy frost on back wall or evaporator cover.
