Freezer shows E7 and may not cool; compressor may not start or may shut off quickly
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.

How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety warning: Unplug the freezer before touching the compressor, relay, or capacitor. Components can be hot and carry high voltage.
Steps:
- Check ventilation: Ensure the Whynter freezer has adequate clearance around the sides and back per the manual. Clean dust from the condenser coils and grille with a brush or vacuum.
- Inspect compressor area: Remove the rear lower panel to access the compressor and start components. Look for burnt or melted plastic on the start relay or capacitor.
- Test start relay/PTC: Remove the relay from the compressor terminals. Shake it gently; if it rattles excessively or shows burn marks, replace it with an OEM Whynter-compatible start device.
- Check run capacitor (if present): Discharge the capacitor safely, then test its capacitance with a meter. Replace if out of tolerance or physically swollen.
- Allow cooling: If the compressor is extremely hot, let it cool for 30–60 minutes before retrying. Persistent E7 after cooling and replacing start components may indicate a failing compressor.
Important: Compressor replacement requires specialized tools and refrigerant handling certification; contact a professional if the compressor itself is suspected.
