Possible Causes

Overheated compressor, Faulty compressor start relay or PTC, Weak run capacitor (if equipped), High head pressure due to dirty condenser or blocked ventilation

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety warning: Unplug the freezer before touching the compressor, relay, or capacitor. Components can be hot and carry high voltage.

Steps:

  • Check ventilation: Ensure the Whynter freezer has adequate clearance around the sides and back per the manual. Clean dust from the condenser coils and grille with a brush or vacuum.
  • Inspect compressor area: Remove the rear lower panel to access the compressor and start components. Look for burnt or melted plastic on the start relay or capacitor.
  • Test start relay/PTC: Remove the relay from the compressor terminals. Shake it gently; if it rattles excessively or shows burn marks, replace it with an OEM Whynter-compatible start device.
  • Check run capacitor (if present): Discharge the capacitor safely, then test its capacitance with a meter. Replace if out of tolerance or physically swollen.
  • Allow cooling: If the compressor is extremely hot, let it cool for 30–60 minutes before retrying. Persistent E7 after cooling and replacing start components may indicate a failing compressor.

Important: Compressor replacement requires specialized tools and refrigerant handling certification; contact a professional if the compressor itself is suspected.
