Possible Causes

Clogged defrost drain tube, Frozen drain trough under evaporator, Cracked drain pan, Excessive frost due to door gasket leak

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the freezer before removing interior panels. Use towels to catch water and prevent slipping.

Steps:

  • Locate defrost drain: Inside the freezer, remove the rear panel to access the evaporator. Under the coil, there is usually a drain trough with a hole leading to a tube.
  • Clear ice: If the trough is frozen, gently melt the ice with warm (not boiling) water using a turkey baster or squeeze bottle. Do not use sharp tools.
  • Flush drain tube: Once open, flush warm water down the drain hole until it flows freely into the drain pan near the compressor.
  • Inspect drain pan: From the rear, check the plastic drain pan for cracks or misalignment. Replace if damaged.
  • Check door gasket: Excess moisture from air leaks can overwhelm the drain. Repair or replace a faulty gasket.

Tip: Periodic cleaning of the drain can prevent future leaks.
