Possible Causes
Worn evaporator fan motor bearings, Ice contacting fan blades, Fan blade misaligned on shaft
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the freezer before accessing the evaporator fan. Fan blades can cause injury.
Steps:
- Access fan: Remove interior baskets and the rear panel to expose the evaporator fan assembly.
- Check for ice: Look for ice buildup around the fan. If present, defrost the unit completely and address any defrost system issues.
- Inspect fan blades: Ensure the blades are not rubbing the shroud. Adjust or reseat the blade on the motor shaft if needed.
- Replace fan motor: If the squeal persists and the motor feels rough when spun by hand, replace the evaporator fan motor with an OEM Whynter part.
Note: Do not lubricate sealed fan motors; replacement is the proper fix.
