Possible Causes
Defective cabinet/ambient NTC sensor, Damaged sensor harness between cabinet and control board, Oxidized connector at control PCB, Main control board sensor circuit failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect the appliance from mains before removing covers.
- Confirm model type: On some Zanussi freezers (especially combined fridge-freezers), E2 refers to the cabinet or fridge sensor that influences freezer operation. Check the user manual or rating plate for model-specific meaning.
- Access the sensor: The cabinet/ambient sensor is often behind a small plastic cover inside the fridge section or near the air duct between fridge and freezer. On freezer-only models, it may be behind the liner near the top.
- Visual inspection: Check for moisture ingress, cracked sensor housing, or damaged wires. Ensure the connector is fully seated.
- Measure resistance: Use a multimeter to measure the NTC resistance at room temperature (around 20–25°C). Compare with Zanussi specifications. A reading of 0 Ω or infinite resistance indicates failure.
- Replace sensor: If out of spec, install a new cabinet/ambient temperature sensor (NTC). Route wiring as original and avoid crushing it when refitting panels.
- Check control PCB: If the sensor and wiring are correct, the main control PCB may be faulty. Inspect for burn marks or swollen components; replacement is typically the remedy.
After replacement, reconnect power and allow several hours for temperatures to stabilize and the error to clear.
