Possible Causes
Failed evaporator fan motor, Ice obstruction around fan blades, Broken fan wiring harness, Faulty fan driver circuit on main PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect mains power before accessing the fan area.
- Access the fan: Remove the internal rear panel of the freezer to expose the evaporator fan motor and evaporator.
- Check for ice build-up: Look for heavy frost or ice blocking the fan. If present, fully defrost the unit and check the defrost system (heater, sensor, thermostat).
- Spin the fan by hand: The blades should rotate freely without scraping. If stiff or noisy, the motor bearings may be worn.
- Test the motor: With the motor disconnected, measure resistance across the motor terminals. An open circuit indicates a failed motor. On DC fans, also check for correct supply voltage from the control board when powered.
- Inspect wiring: Ensure the harness from the fan to the main PCB is intact and connectors are secure.
- Replace faulty motor: Install a new evaporator fan motor if defective. Ensure the fan shroud and blades are correctly positioned to avoid noise and vibration.
- Control board: If the motor and wiring are good but the fan never receives power, the main control PCB may have a failed fan driver.
