Possible Causes
Loose low-voltage wiring between thermostat and Alpha control board, Shorted 24V transformer, Defective Alpha integrated furnace control board, Incorrect thermostat wiring or incompatible thermostat
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power at the breaker before touching any wiring.
- Check 24V power: Inspect the low-voltage fuse on the Alpha control board (often a 3–5A automotive-style fuse). If blown, replace with the same rating only after finding and correcting any shorts.
- Inspect thermostat wiring: Verify that R, W, G, Y, and C wires are correctly landed on both the thermostat and the furnace control board. Look for bare wires touching each other or the furnace chassis.
- Test with jumper (advanced DIY): With power on and panels in place, briefly jumper R to W at the control board to simulate a heat call. If the furnace responds normally, the thermostat or thermostat cable may be faulty.
If E10 remains and the board does not power correctly, the Alpha control board or transformer likely needs replacement by a professional.
