Possible Causes
Dirty or restrictive air filter, Closed or blocked supply registers, Undersized ductwork causing high static pressure, Weak Alpha blower motor or failing blower capacitor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power before removing panels or filters.
- Replace filter: Install a new filter of the correct size and MERV rating recommended by Alpha. Avoid overly restrictive high-MERV filters unless the system is designed for them.
- Open registers: Make sure at least 80% of supply registers are fully open and not blocked by furniture or rugs.
- Check blower performance: With thermostat fan set to ON, verify strong airflow from vents. Weak airflow may indicate a failing blower motor or capacitor.
- Monitor operation: After corrections, run the furnace and see if cycle length increases and comfort improves.
If short cycling continues, duct design or internal furnace issues should be evaluated by a professional.
