Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power and gas before working on the furnace. Use a stable ladder if inspecting roof or sidewall vents.
- Check vent and intake terminations: Go outside and inspect the PVC vent and intake pipes. Remove any leaves, snow, nests, or debris blocking the openings.
- Inspect inducer motor operation: Restore power, call for heat, and observe. The inducer should start before the pressure switch closes. If it hums or does not spin, the inducer assembly may be seized or failed.
- Clean pressure switch tubing and port: Turn power off. Remove the rubber hose from the pressure switch and the inducer housing. Clear any debris or moisture. Use a small drill bit or paper clip by hand to gently clean the port on the inducer (do not enlarge the hole).
- Test pressure switch: With a multimeter, verify the switch is open with no suction and closes when you gently suck on the hose. If it does not change state, replace the pressure switch with an Amana-compatible part.
- Check condensate drain: On condensing models, ensure the condensate trap and drain line are not clogged, as this can flood the inducer and prevent proper draft.
If the venting system or inducer assembly is damaged or corroded, have a licensed HVAC technician evaluate for safe operation.
