Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Shut off gas and power before touching the gas valve or piping. Do not attempt to adjust gas pressure without proper instruments and training.
- Inspect gas valve wiring: Locate the gas valve on the gas manifold. Check the plug-in connector for a secure fit and no corrosion. Reseat the connector.
- Check harness continuity: With power off, disconnect the harness at the board and valve. Use a multimeter to verify continuity of each conductor. Repair any open or damaged wires.
- Test gas valve coil resistance: Measure resistance across the gas valve terminals. Compare to Amana specifications (typically in the service manual). An open or shorted coil indicates a bad valve.
If wiring and valve test good, the control board may not be energizing the valve correctly and should be diagnosed and replaced by a professional.
