Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power and allow the furnace to cool before handling the ignitor. The ignitor is fragile ceramic; handle carefully.
- Inspect ignitor visually: Remove the burner door and locate the ignitor. Look for cracks, chips, or white burned spots. Replace if any damage is visible.
- Check ignitor resistance: Disconnect the ignitor plug and measure resistance across the ignitor leads. Compare to Amana specifications (often 40–200 ohms depending on model). Infinite or near-zero resistance indicates failure.
- Inspect connector and wiring: Ensure the ignitor harness is not touching hot surfaces and the connector is tight at the board.
If a new ignitor does not restore operation, the control board may not be sending power and should be tested by a technician.
