Possible Causes
Thermostat not calling for heat, Broken thermostat wire, Incorrect thermostat settings
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power before handling thermostat wiring.
- Verify thermostat mode: Ensure thermostat is set to HEAT and temperature is above room temperature.
- Check thermostat batteries: Replace batteries if display is dim or blank.
- Bypass thermostat (test only): At the furnace control board, briefly jumper R to W with a small piece of wire. If the furnace starts, the issue is with the thermostat or its wiring.
- Inspect thermostat cable: Look for damage along the run from furnace to thermostat.
If the furnace does not respond even when R and W are jumpered, the control board or safety circuit may be at fault and should be checked by a technician.
