Possible Causes
Faulty pressure switch contacts, Shorted pressure switch tubing, Inducer motor relay stuck on integrated furnace control, Incorrect pressure switch for American Standard furnace model
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power to the furnace before touching wiring or tubing.
Error 02 typically indicates the pressure switch is detected as closed before the inducer starts.
- Inspect pressure switch tubing:
- Locate the rubber or silicone tube from the inducer housing to the pressure switch.
- Remove the tube and check for water, debris, or kinks.
- Blow gently through the tube to clear any blockage and reinstall firmly.
- Check the pressure switch:
- With power off, disconnect the wires from the pressure switch terminals.
- Use a multimeter on continuity: the switch should be open with no suction applied.
- If it reads closed, the switch is stuck and should be replaced with the correct OEM American Standard pressure switch (match rating in inches W.C.).
- Inspect inducer housing port:
- Ensure the small port where the tube connects to the inducer is not plugged with rust or debris.
- Clean gently with a small drill bit or paper clip (do not enlarge the hole).
- If the switch and tubing are good but the board still reads closed, the integrated furnace control may have a stuck input circuit and should be evaluated by a technician.
