Possible Causes
Shorted flame sensor wire to ground, Moisture or condensation on burner assembly, Faulty integrated furnace control flame circuit, Induced voltage from igniter wiring on American Standard board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power before inspecting wiring.
Error 16 indicates the board thinks flame is present when it should not be.
- Inspect flame sensor wiring:
- Check for damaged insulation or contact with metal surfaces.
- Reroute the wire away from high-voltage igniter leads.
- Check for moisture:
- Look for water leaks or condensation dripping onto burners or the board.
- Correct any drainage issues from the flue or evaporator coil.
- Replace control board if needed:
- If wiring and moisture are ruled out, the flame sense circuit on the board may be defective and require replacement.
