Possible Causes
Weak flame signal, Dirty flame sensor, Poor ground connection, Intermittent gas valve operation
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: If you smell gas, shut off the gas supply and ventilate the area.
Steps:
- Clean flame sensor: Remove and gently clean the flame sensor rod with fine steel wool, then reinstall.
- Check grounding: Tighten ground screws on the burner assembly and control board. Ensure the furnace chassis is bonded to electrical ground.
- Observe flame: Through the sight glass, confirm that the flame is stable and fully envelops the sensor. If the flame is weak or lifting, gas pressure or burner condition may be at fault.
Recommendation: If the problem is intermittent and no code is stored, a technician may need to measure flame rectification current.
