Possible Causes

Safety: If you hear repeated clicking with no ignition and smell gas, shut off gas and ventilate.

Observe sequence: Through the sight glass, check if a spark is present and if flame appears briefly. If there is no flame, the gas valve or gas supply may be at fault.
