Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power before removing access panels. Do not operate the furnace with venting disconnected.
- Inspect vent and intake: For 90%+ condensing Bryant furnaces, check PVC intake and exhaust terminations outside for leaves, nests, snow, or ice. Clear any obstructions.
- Check inducer operation: With panels on and power restored, call for heat. Confirm the inducer motor starts and runs smoothly. Listen for grinding or humming.
- Inspect pressure tubing: Turn power off. Locate the rubber or silicone tubing from the inducer housing to the pressure switch. Ensure it is firmly connected, not cracked, and not filled with water. Blow gently through the tubing to clear debris.
- Check condensate drain: On condensing models, verify the condensate trap and hoses are not clogged. A backed-up trap can flood the inducer and block the pressure port.
If the inducer runs but the pressure switch never closes (code 23 persists), the pressure switch or inducer assembly may need replacement after proper testing.
