Possible Causes
Failing ECM blower motor, blocked blower wheel, incorrect blower speed tap settings, defective control board blower relay
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before reaching into the blower compartment. The blower can start unexpectedly.
- Inspect air filter and ducts: Replace a dirty filter. Check for collapsed flex duct or closed dampers that could cause high static pressure.
- Check blower wheel: Remove the blower assembly. Inspect the wheel for heavy dust buildup or foreign objects. Clean with a soft brush and vacuum.
- Verify motor connections: For PSC motors, ensure all speed tap wires are firmly connected to the control board terminals. For ECM motors, check the multi-pin plug for secure connection and no corrosion.
- Spin test: With power off, spin the blower wheel by hand. It should rotate freely without grinding or wobbling.
If code 41 persists and the blower is slow, noisy, or fails to start, the ECM motor module or motor assembly likely needs replacement.
