Possible Causes

Fan set to ON at thermostat, stuck blower relay on control board, shorted G (fan) thermostat wire to R

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power before removing thermostat or furnace panels.

  • Check thermostat fan setting: Ensure the fan mode is set to AUTO, not ON.
  • Inspect thermostat wiring: Remove the thermostat from its base. If the blower stops, the thermostat may be commanding fan. If it continues, the issue is at the furnace.
  • Check G to R short: At the furnace control board, disconnect the G wire. If the blower stops, there is a short between G and R in the thermostat cable or thermostat.
  • Control board relay: If the blower runs even with G disconnected and no call for heat, the blower relay on the Bryant control board is likely stuck closed.

Replacing a control board with a stuck relay should be done with an OEM Bryant board and proper static precautions.
