Possible Causes
Clogged condensate trap, disconnected condensate drain hose, cracked collector box, improperly sloped PVC vent
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power. Avoid standing water near electrical components.
- Locate condensate trap and hoses: On condensing Carrier furnaces, find the plastic condensate trap and attached vinyl hoses.
- Clear trap: Remove the trap (note hose positions), flush it with warm water, and clear any slime or debris. Reinstall in the same orientation.
- Secure hoses: Ensure all hoses are firmly attached and routed downhill to the drain. Replace any brittle or cracked tubing.
- Check vent slope: Verify that horizontal PVC vent runs are properly sloped back to the furnace or to a drain point as specified by Carrier.
If water appears to leak from the heat exchanger or collector box itself, have a technician inspect for cracks or failed seals.
