Possible Causes

Faulty fan motor, Fan wheel obstructed, Fan connector loose, Control board not supplying fan voltage

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Isolate power before accessing the fan assembly. Do not bypass safety devices.

  • Listen for fan operation: On a call for heat, the fan should start before ignition. If there is no fan noise, suspect a fan or control issue.
  • Inspect fan area: Remove the combustion chamber cover and visually inspect the fan and venturi for debris, dust buildup, or foreign objects. Clean carefully with a soft brush and vacuum.
  • Check wiring: Ensure the fan's electrical connector is fully seated on the fan and on the control board. Look for signs of overheating or burnt pins.
  • Spin test: With power off, gently rotate the fan wheel by hand. It should spin freely without scraping. If stiff or noisy, the fan assembly should be replaced.
  • Reset: After reassembly, restore power and reset the furnace. Persistent E08 requires professional testing of the fan and control board.
