Possible Causes
Open or shorted DHW NTC sensor, Limescale on DHW heat exchanger causing sensor overheat, Wiring harness damage, Control board input fault
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Isolate power and close the cold water inlet before working on DHW components.
- Locate DHW NTC: The DHW temperature sensor is usually clipped to the plate heat exchanger or mounted in a sensor pocket on the DHW outlet.
- Check connection: Ensure the sensor plug is firmly connected and that the cable is intact.
- Descale plate heat exchanger (professional): Heavy limescale can cause local overheating. A technician can remove the plate heat exchanger and flush it with descaling solution.
- Reset and test: After checks, restore power and run hot water. If E16 persists, the DHW NTC or control board must be replaced by a professional.
