Possible Causes
Dirty flame sensor losing signal, Intermittent gas valve coil, Low gas pressure causing flame dropout, Draft disturbance affecting flame
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power and gas before removing flame sensor or working near burners.
Steps to check:
- Clean flame sensor: Remove the flame sensor and polish the rod with fine steel wool. Reinstall and ensure it is fully in the flame.
- Inspect burner flame: Observe the flame through the sight glass. It should be steady and blue. Yellow tipping or lifting flames indicate combustion or pressure issues that require a technician.
- Check venting: Ensure vent and intake pipes are clear and properly connected to prevent wind-induced flame disturbance.
If flame still drops out during run, a technician should test gas valve operation, manifold pressure, and flame signal microamps.
