Possible Causes
Loose flame sensor wire, corroded sensor terminal, control board flame rectification circuit failure, poor ground connection
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power and gas before servicing.
- Clean and tighten flame sensor: Remove and clean the flame sensor rod with fine abrasive pad, then reinstall and ensure the wire connector is tight.
- Check ground: Verify the furnace cabinet is properly grounded. Tighten the green ground screw and ensure the ground wire from the power supply is secure.
- Inspect wiring harness: Look for loose or corroded connections between the flame sensor and control board.
If code 44 persists after cleaning and tightening connections, the control board's flame sensing circuit may be defective and require replacement.
