E2 code, inducer motor does not start, no ignition attempt

Safety first: Shut off power and gas supply to the furnace before working on the inducer or vent system.

• Step 1 – Listen and observe: Restore power and call for heat. If the inducer does not start and E2 appears, turn power back off and proceed.
• Step 2 – Inspect venting: Check PVC intake and exhaust pipes (for 90+ AFUE Ducane models) for ice, leaves, nests, or debris. Clear any obstructions. For metal flues, ensure the vent cap is not blocked.
• Step 3 – Check inducer wheel: Remove the inducer housing cover if accessible. Spin the inducer wheel by hand; it should rotate freely without scraping. If seized or noisy, the inducer assembly likely needs replacement.
• Step 4 – Test pressure switch tubing: Inspect the rubber tubing from the inducer housing to the pressure switch for cracks, water, or blockages. Replace tubing if brittle or clogged.
• Step 5 – Pressure switch test (basic): With power off, disconnect the wires from the pressure switch and check that the switch is open at rest (for most Ducane models). If it is stuck closed or never closes when inducer runs, the switch may be faulty or venting is restricted.
• Step 6 – Call a technician: If the inducer motor is not receiving power from the board or the pressure switch readings are unclear, a professional should perform live-voltage and pressure diagnostics.
