Possible Causes
Worn blower motor bearings, Loose or rubbing blower wheel on Ducane blower housing, Failing inducer motor bearings, Debris in inducer wheel
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power before reaching into blower or inducer compartments.
- Step 1 – Identify source: Remove blower door and briefly run the furnace to determine if the noise comes from the blower or inducer (keep hands clear).
- Step 2 – Inspect blower wheel: With power off, spin the blower wheel by hand. It should rotate smoothly without scraping. Tighten the set screw on the motor shaft if loose.
- Step 3 – Check inducer: Access the inducer and spin its wheel. Any grinding or wobble indicates bearing failure.
- Step 4 – Replacement: Noisy motors or wheels generally require replacement. Have a technician replace the blower motor or inducer assembly with Ducane-approved parts.
