Possible Causes

Failed ECM blower motor, Faulty blower relay on IFC board, Open blower capacitor (PSC motors), Seized blower wheel

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power before working on the blower assembly.

  • Check blower wheel rotation: Remove the blower compartment door and try to spin the blower wheel by hand. It should rotate freely. If it is stuck or scraping, debris or a failed bearing may be the cause.
  • Inspect motor capacitor (PSC): If your Fraser‑Johnston furnace uses a PSC motor, locate the run capacitor. Look for bulging or leaking. Replace with the same microfarad rating and voltage if defective.
  • Check motor wiring harness: Ensure the multi‑pin connector from the ECM motor to the control board is fully seated and undamaged.
  • Test motor operation (advanced): A technician can apply power directly to the motor or use diagnostic tools for ECM motors. If the motor does not run when commanded, it likely needs replacement.
