Possible Causes
Worn blower motor bearings, Worn inducer motor bearings, Blower wheel rubbing housing, Loose motor mount
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power before touching moving parts.
- Isolate noise source: Remove the blower door and briefly run the furnace (if door switch can be safely held closed) to determine if the noise comes from the blower or inducer area.
- Inspect blower wheel: With power off, spin the blower wheel by hand. Listen for grinding or scraping. Tighten set screws and reposition the wheel if it contacts the housing.
- Check inducer fan: Access the inducer and spin its wheel. Any roughness or wobble indicates bearing wear.
- Replace noisy motor: Worn bearings require motor replacement, which is best done by a technician using the correct Fraser‑Johnston replacement motor.
