Possible Causes
Persistent ignition failure, Repeated flame loss, Gas supply issues, Faulty ignition control
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power and gas if you smell gas or suspect a leak. Do not attempt repeated restarts without inspection.
- 1. Reset lockout: Turn off furnace power for at least 30 seconds, then restore. This clears the lockout on many Frigidaire controls.
- 2. Observe ignition sequence: Through the sight glass, watch the sequence: inducer start, pressure switch close, ignitor glow, gas valve open, flame establish. Note at which step it fails.
- 3. Perform basic checks: Clean the flame sensor, inspect the hot surface ignitor, and verify the gas shutoff valve is open.
- 4. Limit number of retries: If the furnace locks out again after 2–3 attempts, stop and call a professional. Repeated failed ignition can flood the heat exchanger with unburned gas.
- 5. Professional diagnosis: A technician should check gas pressure, combustion, and all safety circuits to identify the root cause before returning the furnace to service.
