Possible Causes
Closed gas shutoff valve, Faulty gas valve, Failed hot surface ignitor, Faulty ignition control
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power and gas if you smell gas. Do not attempt to light burners manually.
- 1. Thermostat check: Ensure thermostat is set to HEAT and temperature is above room level.
- 2. Gas valve position: Verify the manual gas shutoff valve near the furnace is fully open.
- 3. Observe ignition: Through the sight glass, watch for ignitor glow and burner ignition when there is a call for heat. Note if the ignitor glows or not.
- 4. Basic component check: If the ignitor never glows, it may be failed and require replacement. If it glows but burners never light, the gas valve or gas supply may be at fault and should be checked by a technician.
