Possible Causes
Failed PSC blower motor capacitor, Seized blower motor bearings, Faulty ECM motor module on variable-speed Gibson furnaces, Loose blower wiring harness
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power before working near the blower assembly. The blower can start unexpectedly if power is on.
Steps to check:
- Inspect blower wheel: Remove blower door and visually inspect the blower wheel for debris or obstructions. Spin the wheel by hand; it should rotate freely.
- Check capacitor (PSC motors): Locate the run capacitor attached to the blower housing. If bulged or leaking, it should be replaced with the same microfarad rating and voltage.
- Wiring connections: Ensure all motor and control board connectors are fully seated and not burned.
- ECM motors: For variable-speed ECM motors, module diagnosis and replacement should be done by a technician due to cost and programming requirements.
