Possible Causes
Undersized or restricted ductwork, Closed registers, Dirty filter or coil, Blower speed set too low for heating
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power before adjusting blower speed taps or accessing blower compartment.
Steps:
- Open all vents: Ensure all supply and return registers are fully open.
- Replace filter and clean coil: Install a clean filter and have the evaporator coil cleaned if dirty.
- Check blower speed: On PSC motor models, verify that the heating speed tap on the control board is set appropriately (consult Goodman wiring diagram). Increasing blower speed can reduce temperature rise.
- Listen for duct noise: Excessive whistling or banging may indicate duct restrictions that need professional correction.
If high limit trips continue, a technician should measure static pressure and temperature rise and may recommend duct modifications.
