Possible Causes
Failed hot surface ignitor, Loose ignitor connector, Faulty control board ignitor relay, Open safety switch in ignition circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power and gas before working near the burner or ignitor.
Steps:
- Inspect ignitor: Remove the hot surface ignitor and check for visible cracks or breaks. Replace if damaged.
- Check connector: Ensure the ignitor plug is fully seated on the control board and that wires are not pinched or broken.
- Test ignitor resistance: With a multimeter, measure resistance across the ignitor leads. An open circuit indicates a failed ignitor.
- Board output (advanced): A technician can test for 120 VAC at the ignitor terminals during the ignition sequence. If no voltage is present with a good ignitor, the control board is likely faulty.
Always use the correct Goodman OEM ignitor and handle it carefully to avoid damage.
