Possible Causes
Weak flame signal due to dirty sensor, Poor burner ground, Low gas input, Faulty control board flame circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power and gas before servicing flame sensor or burners.
Steps to check:
- Clean flame sensor: Remove and clean the sensor rod with fine steel wool. Reinstall firmly.
- Check ground: Ensure the furnace ground wire is tight and that the burner assembly has a solid metal-to-metal contact with the chassis.
- Observe flame: After restoring power, watch the burners. Flames should fully engulf the flame sensor. If not, burners may be dirty or misaligned.
When to call a pro: If the flame signal remains weak, a technician should measure microamp flame current, adjust gas pressure, clean burners, or replace the control board.
