Possible Causes

Leaking heat exchanger, Loose union on flow/return connections, Dripping pressure relief valve, Condensate trap or hose leaking

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Turn off power. If leak is significant, close system isolation valves to prevent water damage.

  • Identify fluid: Determine if the leak is clear condensate or system water (may contain inhibitor and be discoloured).
  • Check joints: Inspect all visible unions and compression fittings; gently tighten if slightly loose.
  • Inspect PRV: Look at the pressure relief valve discharge. If it is wet or dripping, check system pressure and replace the valve if it continues to leak at normal pressure.
  • Condensate system: Examine the condensate trap and hoses for cracks or poor connections; reseat or replace as needed.
  • Heat exchanger: If water appears from within the combustion chamber or heat exchanger body, shut down the furnace and call a Hoval service technician.
