Possible Causes
Defective hot surface igniter, incorrect igniter gap/position, faulty ignition wiring harness, ignition control circuit failure on PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power and gas before accessing the burner compartment. Igniters are fragile and can break easily.
Steps:
- Visual check of igniter: Remove the burner access panel and locate the hot surface igniter on your Ideal furnace. Inspect for cracks or chips. If damaged, it must be replaced with the correct Ideal-specified part.
- Check igniter wiring: Ensure the plug from the igniter to the control board is fully seated and that wires are not pinched or burnt.
- Observe operation: With panels in place, restore power and call for heat. If the igniter never glows, the igniter or control board is likely faulty.
- Replacement: Replacing the igniter is usually straightforward but must be done carefully to avoid touching the element with bare fingers. Follow Ideal’s service instructions or have a technician perform the work.
